St. Basil's

Built 1551 to 1561, during the reign of Ivan the Terrible to commemorate the conquest of Astrakhan and Kazan, it is perhaps the best known of Russian cathedrals because it is frequently part of the Moscow backdrop of American television news reports. Because of its design run riot (a personal opinion), it is probably not a representative example of Russian cathedral architecture.
